Friend of the Sea, the preeminent certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, announced on September 20th that it is updating its sustainability criteria. The move is intended to align the criteria with the latest scientific evidence with the goal of ensuring a better future for the world’s oceans. Stakeholders are invited to contribute.
“We will succeed if we do this together, bringing the best minds to the huge task of preserving the marine environment,” said Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea. “If you are interested in sharing your insights and knowledge, we welcome your contributions.” Stakeholders should check the ToR of the revision process to see the scope and objectives of this revision process, justification of the need for the standard, guidance on comments and suggestions, timelines and decision-making procedure.
The revision process applies to new “FOS – Wild Caught Standard v.4” and “FOS – Audit Guidance v.2.” FOS has made it possible to download the documents under revision in PDF files. Stakeholders can input comments on the following documents:

Friend ofthe Sea, a project of the World Sustainability Organization, awards sustainable practices in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Fishmeal and Omega 3 Fish Oil. The organization promotes pilot projects related to restaurants, sustainable shipping, whale and dolphin-watching, aquaria, ornamental fish, UV creams and others. It is the only sustainable fisheries certification program recognized and supervised globally by a National Accreditation Body.
