Tiny homes are defined as spaces between 200 and 400 square feet, and have been a popular housing alternative for many years now. They continue to gain favor with the millennial generation today, as it is estimated that between 2,000 and 5,000 of these dwellings are sold in the U.S. each year. Tiny homes are particularly attractive to younger generations because they cost as much as the typical down payment on a normal-sized home, but don’t require the subsequent mortgage payments each month. It’s estimated that tiny home dwellers save around $500/month when compared to those living in traditional homes!
In addition, tiny homes enable a minimalist and low-impact lifestyle, simply due to the space limitations. Many can also be modified to incorporate eco-friendly energy-savers such as rainwater barrels, composting toilets, and solar panels. Tiny homes require less material to make, and are also significantly cheaper to update and maintain.
