There is definitely a need for people who are concerned about the environmental aspects. Being environmentally friendly and understanding the basis of a “green” lifestyle is a great way to help take care of the natural world.
Life is a process of constant learning and those who are learning are the “kids”. Parents are the role models for their kids as they learn best by watching and interacting with them. We really need to teach them how to take care of our planet. Be sure to tell your kids with your actions and words about the importance of our lovely planet “earth”. However, it can be challenging to teach our kids the importance of making eco-friendly choices in their daily lives in a society build around mass consumerism. We should strive to teach our kids to be mindful global citizens who would learn everything to become eco-friendly. Here are some smart eco-friendly practices that you surely won’t hesitate to teach your kids from today.
- Give Them Inspiring And Motivating Ideas:
Kids need inspiration and motivation through actions and words from their parents and guardians. Show them that they cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the earth around them. Set some brilliant examples for them and demonstrate to them what they have to do to live in an eco-friendly environment. Read story books to them about nature and environment. Choose books wisely that talks about how important trees and animals are on this planet. This will produce love for them about nature and will also bring a sense of awareness in them. Show them movies related to eco-friendly environment like Wall-E, FemGully: The Last Rainforest, Finding Nemo from which they will understand why it is necessary to protect our planet and why some of the choices we make can be harmful.
- Let Them Interact With Nature:
Make sure you are giving your kid plenty of time and opportunities to interact with nature. Take them outside regularly into the woods, under the tree or nearby a water stream whenever possible. Being in a natural world can have a fantastic impact on the kids. Share your experiences about nature with them as a little bit of information along with some practical experience can surely go a long way.
- Encourage Them About Reducing, Reusing And Recycling Of Products:
Follow this particular smart lesson about trash, you can teach kids “the three R’s” to reduce their waste, reuse materials and recycle whatever is left. Teaching your young kids about reusing and recycling of products is itself an art. Boxes, toilet papers, plastics and wrapping papers can be reused for special purposes. Help your kids to make super creative boxes with them to use them for school stationery, closet or wherever they want.
- Plant A Small Garden With Them:
Experiencing the environment in a natural state will help kids to understand the living of an eco-friendly system. Help them to plant a tree and let them experience the wonders of nature. Let them know the benefits of planting a tree from which they can serve for humanity as trees give oxygen which all humans and animals can absorb. Here are some wonderful facts about trees that we should teach our kids.
- Just like we humans, trees need water to survive
- Trees help cool down the earth and air around them
- Trees can let you find your way if you accidentally get lost in a forest
- An average tree can remove one ton of carbon dioxide from the earth
- Tree lower temperature by evaporating water in their leaves
- Engage Your Kids To Do Some Eco-Friendly Tasks:
We should give freedom to our kids while performing different eco-friendly tasks. It will definitely bring a sense of positivity towards them when they do things themselves like unplugging the devices when they are not being used, turning off the extra lights, turning off the tap water while brushing or opening the windows for a soothing breeze.
- Encourage Them To Purchase Eco-Friendly Clothing, Toys And Other Items:
One of the ways in which we can teach our kids about the importance of being environmentally friendly is through the choices we make in our own lives, including the purchases we make. Speaking to kids about why we are purchasing certain items and why we are avoiding others is quite critical in helping them understand the logic behind eco-friendly living. Many years ago it was really difficult to find eco-friendly clothing or toys but now we are blessed to have numerous shops and online stores which offer discounts and deals from which kids can get a sense of money saving too. Parents or guardians can also teach them to shop on second-hand items, clothing or toys which no one longer needs them.
In A Nutshell:
Young kids learn by watching, listening and practicing. If you can make it clear to them through your daily actions and words there will be a huge impact on them about eco-friendly living. They will in general adopt different eco-friendly habits of their own and continue them for the rest of their lives.
