Zoomlion Ghana Limited has unveiled an ultramodern integrated waste recovery and recycling park in the capital city of Accra. The ceremony to mark official commissioning of the facility was attended by other dignitaries in addition to the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies and owner of Zoomlion Ghana Limited Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Agyepong stated that sixteen other plants will be set up in regional capitals, replicating the same technology. Out of this, the plants in the cities of Takoradi, Kumasi, and Tamale are expected to begin their operations by the end of August this year, he added. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commended Zoomlion for its commitment to increase waste management infrastructure in the country. He called upon increased private participation in government’s efforts to boost infrastructure development.
According to company press release, the facility will crush post-consumer PET bottles into pellets, which in turn would be used by Universal Plastic Product Recycling Limited (UPPR) in the manufacture of waste bins and bin liners. The ability to process 90% of all kinds of waste will help the country to significantly reduce its dependence on imports for chemical fertilizer and other plastic products.
